They are the few, the proud, the Marines. On Saturday they were also the very messy Marines, and there were more than a few of them.
Hundreds of people came out for Saturday’s Marine Mud Run and struggled over the hills and through the muddy waters.
The muddy run was also for a good cause: raising money for Toys for Tots.
“We do this for the kids. The kids are our main focus. The kids are going to take care of us in the future so we need to take care of them now. So if a kid needs a shiny new toy at Christmas time, by God, we're going to provide one,” said First Sergeant Sam Alameda.
"The hardest part was probably the 30 foot mud pit at the end of the sprint, thinking that it's almost at the finish line, but oh no, it's so deep you had to swim through it,” said Cherie Jolly, who ran in the event.
On Saturday, the Marines raised about 4,000 dollars for Toys for Tots.
