One hour of your time can leave a lasting impression on children in our community. South Bend schools are looking for 6,000 mentors for elementary school students.
On Friday, NewsCenter 16’s Tricia Sloma sat down with South Bend School Superintendent Dr. Robert Zimmerman to talk about how you can lend a hand.
Dr. Zimmerman says spending just one hour with a student once a week can transform a child's life.
"It gives an opportunity generally to do a little reading with a child, work on some math facts, and also just to get to know them and let them know that there's somebody there that cares about them,” explained Zimmerman.
Schools are willing to accommodate any schedule. For more information on the mentoring program, call 574-283-8044.
