Indiana's largest health maintenance organization is leaving group health coverage and recommending that customers switch to a competitor.

M-Plan will endorse Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Indiana as the insurer of choice for customers when their M-Plan contracts expire. Anthem is a subsidiary of Indianapolis-based WellPoint.

M-Plan's commercial HMO business covers 125,000 people. President and CEO Alex Slabosky says staying in that line of coverage would have required investments topping millions of dollars in software and other technology.

M-Plan employs 250 people. Slabosky says the move will lead to significant job cuts.
