ND Credit Union scam

Police may have caught the man responsible for an email scam targeting Notre Dame Credit Union.

Officials say in the past week, someone has been trying to get the debit card and pin numbers of Notre Dame customers.

The e-mail scam includes a link, which takes you to a page identical to the Credit Union's.

Late this afternoon, police arrested a man in California

Official say this was a typical phishing scam that is almost impossible to prevent.

"The con game of trying to take people's money has always been around since the beginning of time and it's going to be here until forever. It's just the techniques are going to change," says Leo Ditchcreek with the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.

To avoid becoming a victim of phishing scams police say never give out your credit or debit card information over the phone or via e-mail.

The reason is because credit unions and credit card companies already have that info.
