South Bend man pulled from St. Joe River by off-duty firefighter

A South Bend man is in the hospital after he was pulled from the St. Joe River by an off-duty firefighter.

It happened Tuesday night off Riverside Drive, near Leeper Park East. Police say the off-duty fireman was nearby.

A NewsCenter 16 iWitness reporter named Rose took a picture of the rescue as it was happening.

The man was out of the water within minutes. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No word on why he went in the water or his condition.
