Heavy storms cause transformer fire near Grape Road

Heavy storms caused a transformer fire on Monday near Grape Road in Mishawaka.

As of late Monday afternoon, the transformer still smoldered, after it was on fire earlier behind the Burlington Coat Factory.

The transformer fire was responsible for many stoplights being out around the area, on Grape Road and near University Park Mall.

At last check, Indiana Michigan Power says this weather has knocked out power to some 250 customers in St Joe County.

Meantime, over in LaPorte County, Mother Nature has left nearly 2,000 customers in the dark.
