Deadly I-94 accident under investigation

A deadly accident in Van Buren County, Michigan is under investigation.

The accident happened around 2:15pm Tuesday on I-94 just east of the Van Buren - Berrien County line near the 43-mile marker in Hartford Township.

According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department, the driver of a Chevy Blazer, Vickie Washington, 58, of Hazel Crest, Illinois swerved to avoid a car, ran into the median and rolled over.

Washington died at the scene, however, her fiance James Bullock, 63, of Detroit, Michigan was taken to Bronson Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident caused traffic back-ups for miles in each direction.

Deputies investigating the crash said a Mercury Grand Marquis cut off Washington's car.

According to witnesses, the white Mercury Grand Marquis has New Jersey license plates and the single white occupant continued west on I-94 without stopping.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have seen this vehicle traveling or had witnessed the crash to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office at (269) 657-3101.
