Thousands of students woke up early, packed their backpacks, and headed back to school.
Tuesday morning about 27,000 students went back to school.
Both Mishawaka and South Bend schools were back in session.
Parents, students and teachers say they were eager to start the new year and see old friends.
“My daughter was all dressed and ready to go real early. She was excited, now the rest of the year that probably won't be the case,” says parent Jamie Boyer.
Mishawaka students only go to school for a half day Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the district starts a normal schedule.
