Prosecutors have charged 28 New Castle Correctional Facility inmates with an array of felony and misdemeanors tied to last April's riot at the medium security prison.
A total of 27 Arizona inmates and one from Indiana were charged with rioting, battery, intimidation and battery by bodily waste, among other charges.
The inmates were led into a temporary court in the prison for their initial hearings this morning.
Prisoners burned mattresses and broke windows at the medium-security prison April 24th during the two-hour disturbance. Eight prisoners and two staff members were injured, none seriously.
The riot erupted only weeks after hundreds of Arizona inmates were transferred to the prison about 45 miles east of Indianapolis under a contract between Indiana and Arizona.
