The Center for History hosted gospel in the gardens Sunday afternoon.
Musical groups from local congregations presented a lively festival of song and dance.
South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke also made it out to Sunday's event.
Representatives from the Center for History think this a good way to relate exhibits to real life.
"It's part of the programming associated with an exhibit we have up called 'Civil Rights in the Media,' the "Civil Rights in the Media looks at what was going on in South Bend in the 1960's and 1970's in terms of the Civil Rights struggle, and this is a way for us to get to know our neighbors a little bit better," said Executive Director Andy Ray.
The Center for History wants to make this, at the very least, an annual event.
