Saint Mary's students walk for the hungry

On Sunday, students at Saint Mary's College helped raise money and food for the hungry in South Bend. It's the second annual walk for the hungry, called "Yes We Can."

The walk is organized by the Office for Civic and Social Engagement at the college.

Each participant was asked to bring at least three cans of non-perishable food or $2 to donate.

All of the canned food and proceeds go the food pantry at Little Flower Church.

Organizers say the rainy day wasn't a deterrent for the walkers.

“You can see that students are really interested in this and really devoted to the cause because, although the weather isn't the best, we had a really good turnout and I'm hoping that we continue with that for the day,” said Olivia Critchlow, assistant director of the OCSE.

Last year, the students had about 75 walkers and this year they had over 100 registered walkers.
