Teenagers arrested for attacking Elkhart man

Four Michiana teenagers are accused of attacking an Elkhart man, even hitting him with a snow shovel.

The attack happened last week on Potawatomi Drive near North Side Middle School.

A 34-year-old man tried to intervene when a group of middle school kids was harassing his 12-year-old daughter and another girl, and the teens turned on the man.

A 15-year-old boy hit the man with a shovel, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police say it appears the "mob mentality" kicked in, and the four teens kicked, punched and hit the man several times before running away.

The man suffered a broken nose, broken finger and large cuts on the head and arm that needed stitches. He also had two black eyes and bruises all over his body.

A 13-year-old girl, two 14-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy were arrested.

They all face charges for aggravated battery.
