A benefit on Sunday, Feb. 28 in South Bend will help Mishawaka Cpl. James Szuba's family after he and his K9 partner, Ricky, were killed by a drunk driver last month.
The event will be at Club Landing, located at 1717 Lincolnway East in South Bend. Doors open at 4 p.m.
Club Landing says donations from businesses like Ruths Chris Steakhouse, Houlihans, Verandah Shoes, Between the Buns, Deethardt Printing, Doc Pierce's, Yesterday's, Maury Pat's Pub, Luigi's Pizza, McDaniel's Harley Davidson, Double T's Barbecue, Martins Supermarkets, and West End Bakery are making it possible.
There will be food, live music from The Balbo Brothers, The Jason Sapen Band, MGB and Speak Easy, as well as games and raffles.
Many organizers are putting the benefit together including some who didn't even know Cpl. Szuba personally. "We didn't know Cpl. Szuba, we just thought this was a terrible thing and we wanted to do what we could because we had family that was police officers in Mishawaka," says Frank Balbo.
You must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets cost a minimum $10 donation and can be purchased in advance by emailing TheBalboBrothers@aol.com.
Some of the money will also go to the St. Joseph County Humane Society and a fund for training police dogs.
