Around nine months ago, the University of Notre Dame was a circus for weeks, and the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese chastised President John Jenkins for the school's commencement speaker. Monday, the diocese was back on campus.
It was a memorable scene, as protestors descended on campus to fight the university's decision to have President Obama, who is pro-choice, as commencement speaker. Bishop John D'Arcy of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese refused to attend the commencement.
Monday, the new man in charge, Bishop Kevin Rhoades, made his way to Notre Dame to talk to students about abortion, and everyone left any ill feelings at the door.
“I'm really looking forward to a very positive, very close relationship between me and Fr. Jenkins and with the whole Notre Dame community,” said Bishop Rhoades.
The bishop's speech focused on the Catholic Church's stance on abortion, but also what Bishop Rhoades calls the false notion of freedom in America when a person takes the pro choice position.
