It looks like a Berrien County neighborhood won't be getting a mega shredder, according to our reporting partners at WSJM Radio.

Tuesday night, Benton Township trustees were supposed to hear from owners of a recycling business on their plans to put a new facility on Paw paw Avenue, complete with a car shredder.

Before the meeting even started, Randy Schlipp, the owner of Randy's Recycling in Eau Claire, withdrew his permit request for the shredder. This comes after the Township Planning Committee recommended that the permit be denied.

Township residents opposed to the idea of a mega shredder from the start of the project, partly because of the controversy surrounding a similar shredder in Elkhart County.

That shredder was dismantled last fall after years of complaints from neighbors about the noise and the smell.
