Construction on State Road 23 is officially underway.
Governor Mitch Daniels had the honor of breaking ground Wednesday afternoon.
The major reconstruction project will add lanes, install a curb and update traffic signals on the thoroughfare.
Moreover, the project is part of the governor's "major moves" transportation plan, which Daniels says will provide the state with more economic opportunity by building a first class transportation system.
First class transportation, however, comes at a cost.
8.65 million dollars will improve the nearly two mile stretch of State Road 23.
Reith Riley construction has been contracted for the construction.
