South Bend Fire and Police Departments, The Red Cross and the St. Joseph Emergency Management Agency held a biohazard drill at the South Bend post office Wednesday.
The drill simulated steps the various agencies would take if a biohazard emergency happened at the post office.
According to officials, planning for an event like this makes sure things run smoothly in case of a real emergency.
"Planning is everything, preparedness is everything. It seems strange to practice this on a beautiful day and everything with everything going smoothly, but it allows us to see where our shortcomings are if there's something we need to do different...can the local first responders do something better to help our employees as well as help our community," said Customer Relations Coordinator Kim Yates.
The test also allowed the agencies to work together and practice communication.
