For the first time since last week’s deadly explosion and fire in Elkhart, we have heard from VIM Recycling’s president.
In a statement released Tuesday night, VIM President Ken Will offers thanks to firefighters and the community for their hard work and support.
Will also offers thoughts and prayers to the families of two VIM workers, one who was killed and the other who suffered serious burns.
Will says VIM is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the fire, which has been ruled accidental.
Will's official statement from VIM Recycling is printed below:
VIM’s president, Ken Will, says, “We want to thank every firefighter, the community, our friends and employees for all of their dedication, endless hard work, patience, donations and support. It was overwhelming to see such kindness and strength during such a sad time for our company. We could not continue to get through this without such tremendous help from everyone.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jose’s family and Celestino and his family. This was a devastating tragedy that we will never forget.”
Jose Espiridion Garcia Olvera, an employee for VIM, lost his life on Thursday, June 14th in the accidental fire that began just after 10 PM at our recycling plant in Elkhart.
Celestino Gonzalez, another employee, was also injured in the fire and is recuperating at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
VIM is cooperating with local, state and federal authorities in the ongoing investigations surrounding this accident.
