Volunteers Gather to Help Build Home

The South Bend community is welcoming a new family by helping to build them a home.

The first "wall of many" went up Saturday morning at a Habitat-for-Humanity home on Jefferson Street.

Each sound of the hammer and nail is the sound of progress.

Volunteers from 11 different Lutheran churches came out to help Natalie Kuplic and her family.

According to Kuplic, it is hard to put into words just how grateful she is.

"It's very, very exciting. Especially since I’ve built a couple houses on this block. It's a different feeling, it's hard to explain, building someone else's house was fun and exciting, but nothing can top this," said Kuplic.

Natalie, like all Habitat-for-Humanity homeowners, is helping to build her home.

Habitat homeowners also have to put in a certain number of "sweat equity" hours before they can move in.
