Friday's steamy temperatures did not keep dedicated soccer players off the field.
The adult Midwest-Regional Soccer Finals got underway in St. Joseph and Stevensville, Michigan.
One-thousand players from the Midwest are taking part in the competition.
The games are usually held in bigger cities like Chicago or St. Louis, but this year organizers decided to change things up.
Bruno Trapikas, United States Adult Soccer Association, said, “We started the process well over a year ago. Obviously we had to secure the most important things first including field locations and hotel accommodations for the teams.”
He added, “This is certainly an economic boom we have approximately one thousand out of town participants. Some of them bring family and friends. They are occupying at least 350 hotel rooms in this area.”
The tournament ends Sunday.
Friday night and tomorrow's games are played at the Lakeshore Youth Soccer Complex, on Rockey Week Road.
On Sunday the finals will be played at Upton Middle School.
