A South Bend man who once spent five years behind bars is headed back to prison.
Thursday in court, Richard Alexander was sentenced to six years in prison for the 2005 beating of a former girlfriend.
He pleaded guilty to battery last month.
In 2001, Alexander was released from prison when DNA evidence cleared him of the 1996 “River Park rapes.”
Alexander is due back in court next month.
He is accused of assaulting his estranged-wife earlier this year.
