The South Bend Police Department held an appreciation cook-out on Wednesday in honor of Corporal Nick Polizzotto.
The officer was killed in a shootout outside the Wooden Indian Motel in April.
Wednesday’s cookout was the police department’s way of saying thanks to the community for all its support.
“We sent out invitations to businesses, organizations and community members that stepped up to help us. We wanted them to stop by so we could thank them. This is a great community and a lot people really stepped up to help us and we really appreciate it,” said Chief Tom Fautz, of the South Bend Police Department.
Chief Fautz says he is proud to live in a community where people step up to help those in need, and Wednesday’s cookout was the least the department could do to say thanks.
