Elkhart County Police say a car holding five teenagers crashed just before 10 Sunday night leaving two dead.
Police tell us 17 year old Erika Kemp was driving the car eastbound on County Road 50, west of County Road 3.
Then, for an unknown reason, the car left the road, drove through a shallow creek, went airborne and struck a tree.
Brother and sister, 17 year old Alisha Miller and 15 year old Austin Miller were killed.
Also, 16 year old Trevor Yoder died Monday evening from his injuries.
The driver, Erika Kemp was airlifted from the scene to South Bend Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
Another passenger, 15 year old Justin Zimmerman, is being treated for a broken pelvis.
The Elkhart County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating. Officials say there's nothing at this point to lead them to believe the teens were drinking, but their presence is procedural for a fatal accident.
"We do not know whether there was alcohol or drugs. We have taken the steps to obtain toxicology reports on all the occupants, including the driver. But it will take some time to go through the legal process to obtain the results," explains Detective Ray Caples from the Elkhart Sheriff's Department.
Meanwhile, all day Monday, cars were driving by the accident scene and slowing down, eyes gazed at the tire marks and at the tree cracked in half. It's something they say they have to see to believe.
"Sometimes I break down and cry when I think about it," says Calvin Yoder, who knows the teens.
"I would say to the families, just simply, that I love them...my heart is breaking too. That's really all I can say."
