Holy Cross College Improves Security

In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, a local college is strengthening its emergency notification system.

On Tuesday, Holy Cross College announced they are bringing Alertify to campus.

Alertify is an emergency notification system that uses the school database to notify students and faculty of an emergency via both email and cell phone.

School leaders started looking for ways to improve security after the Virginia Tech tragedy.

“I think Alertify will be good for Holy Cross. It is a very small school, but the system we use now - the word of mouth system - is not entirely effective. I think this will save a lot of time and energy and safety,” says Holy Cross student Katelyn Palmer.

The Alertify company offers grants to colleges using the program for the first year.

Holy Cross will start employing the technology this August.
