Three Michiana Students Compete in National Spelling Bee

The 80th National Spelling Bee began Wednesday in Washington.

There are a record number of spellers in this year’s competition. A total of 286 spellers are participating, and range from ages 10 to 15 years old.

Three Michiana students are vying for the title this year, including Ariane Bolt of South Bend.

This is her second trip to the National Spelling Bee.

Bolt is joined by Nellie Patrick of St. Joseph and Erik Troske of La Porte.

The final rounds of the National Spelling Bee take place tomorrow night.
