Michigan Budget Shortfall

Michigan lawmakers are busy at work trying to erase an $800 million budget shortfall.

The House approved two measures today to cut the deficit in half.

One measure sells a chunk of the state's future tobacco lawsuit settlements in exchange for cash up front.

The other one takes surplus from a college loan fund.

Both proposals now head to the Senate.

Michigan lawmakers are scrambling to prevent employee layoffs and cuts to public schools.
