A South Bend family has a mess to deal with after a car crashed into their house early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before one o’clock in the 2500 block of Bergan Street.

The car went over a boulder, hit a tree, ran into the home, and caught on fire!

The fire was quickly put out by firefighters. Thankfully, the driver and the family inside the home escaped without any injuries.

Emma James says she and her husband Tommy were in their basement when the crash happened.

"We had finished painting and we were coming upstairs. My son was asleep and I heard a boom. I went to the door and I could see a big glow!"

It's unclear what caused the crash, but the home is located on a curve.

Tommy James says they’ll likely take steps to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen again in the future.

"We'll probably put about 4 or 5 boulders in front to make sure that whenever they come around that corner there, that maybe that will stop them. They’ll keep them out of the yard and out of the house."

The James family says this isn't the first time a car has crashed into their home!
