Manigault Critical of Housing Plan

Mayor Luecke’s plan to take care of abandoned homes does have its critics.

This is an election year, and Juan Manigault is the Republican challenging Luecke in the mayoral race.

Manigault was particularly skeptical about a requirement that anyone who purchases a home for a dollar would have to make at least 75,000 dollars in repairs.

“When you look at the house behind me, who is going to invest 75,000 dollars? Even if you buy the house for a dollar, who is going to pay 75 grand to rehab a home?” asked Manigault.

Manigault continued by saying, “I think the mayor’s program is a political tool. He's been in office for 11 years, why did he wait until now, six months before Nov. 6th, to announce this program?”

Manigault says the best way to shore up the housing situation in South Bend, is to shore up the eroding job market.
