The school year has come to an end at Notre Dame, which marks the popular year end campus “yard sale.”
When moving out of their residences, students throw away 54-tons of miscellaneous items leaving behind everything from furniture to bicycles.
The items left behind will be sold at a huge “yard sale" called "Old-to-Gold" this Saturday.
Leaders from St. Joseph County United Way are busy getting ready for the huge sale.
“It started at Penn State years ago. We picked up on it and we called it Old to Gold. When the students leave they donate items they don't want to take home with them and then we sell them at a yard sale and all of the revenue goes to local charities,” said Alan Bigger of Old-to-Gold Promotions.
This year, United Way hopes to raise $50,000, which will be distributed among 50-local charities.
The Old-to-Gold sale is this Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.
Gates open at 7am and the early bird special runs from 7am to 9am.
Admission is $5.
