Boaters Also Affected By High Gas Prices

The Memorial Day weekend marks the official start of the boating season, and this year it will definitely start on a high note where gas prices are concerned.

On Thursday, one Lake Michigan Marina was selling a gallon of gas for a $3.89 a gallon.

Boaters are used to paying more for the privilege of pumping at the pier; however, some fishing charter captains are reeling financially.

“It's about a mile a gallon when we're running today most of the captains are burning, depends on the size boat, the size of the engines, 70 to 100 dollars a trip,” said Ken Neidlinger of Silverking Sport Fishing.

Boaters say these are the highest gas prices they have seen in decades.

The boat used by Silverking charters gets about one mile a gallon on the water.

Still ken says he stopped short of imposing a fuel surcharge.
