The Morris Performing Arts Center is getting rave reviews for the economic role it plays downtown.
A new study shows that patrons of the Morris and the neighboring Palais Ballroom spend some $5.6 million in the area.
Most of the money—55-percent---is spent on food and refreshment.
“People are spending an average of 33 dollars” said the author of the study, Ashley Oberst, a St. Mary’s College senior.
“Most live locally. 87%, they’re spending that money in local restaurants.”
Just three years ago another study pegged the economic impact of the Morris at $3.1 million.
The increase in spending is said to be connecting to increasing crowds at the Morris.
