A line of severe thunderstorms swept across Michiana late this afternoon and early evening, producing widespread tree and power line damage, along with some structural damage in places.
In most instances, the damage was caused by downbursts and straight-line winds.
These are called gust-fronts, and they can sometimes have small tornadoes, or gust-nadoes along the front.
We have several pictures of those…they look like a pillar or dust, or even smoke at times.
There may have also been some weak tornadoes touch down in some spots.
Only a review of the damage will show whether these will be official tornadoes, and what strength they will be assigned.
Here is the forecast…
A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH remains in effect until 10pm EDT for the eastern parts of Michiana.
I believe it will be cancelled early, however…
Tonight: Evening showers and t’showers ending, then turning much cooler. Low: 47, Wind: NW 7-14
Wednesday: Cooler with clouds early in the day…then some afternoon sunshine. High: 59, Wind: NW 10-20, gusts to 25
Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower. Low: 42
Thursday: Partly sunny and cool. High: 61
