Shoppers take Turkey Day to get ahead on holiday shopping

Although Turkey Day is all about spending time with friends and family for some it is also a chance to get ahead on holiday shopping.

About half a dozen major stores in the area were open on Thanksgiving Day in South Bend including Rural King and Meijer.

Shoppers say they were picking up some last minute items and doing some early Christmas shopping.

“Breaks up the deer huntin, shopping in the afternoon, probably back out deer hunting tonight,” says Rural King shopper Jeremy Scafaria.

“People want to save money. Everybody is looking for a deal. Other retailers are experiencing it to. There are a lot of retailers that are having a Thanksgiving only sale. Customers are wanting to get bang for the buck,” says Rural King assistant manager Dave Taylor.

There are a handful of websites that help shoppers compare Black Friday ads.
