Wal-Mart Names “Teacher of the Year”

We all know Michiana is filled with some very special teachers.

Wednesday morning a South Bend teacher was surprised to learn she was named "Teacher of the Year."

Cynthia Kneip was voted "Teacher of the Year" by students and faculty at Veritas Academy.

Wal-Mart presented the 5th grade teacher with the award at Wednesday morning's South Bend Silverhawks game.

Each year Wal-Mart selects one teacher to receive this award.

For Cynthia, it is an honor straight out of left field.

Kneip said, "I'm totally shocked. I didn't realize that Wal-Mart did this and I had no idea that my students would even know to do this. Totally shocked."

Along with a certificate and shirt, Cynthia received a $100 Wal-Mart gift card.

Her school also received a one thousand dollar grant.

Cynthia says she will use her gift card to buy supplies for her classroom.
