We have breaking news tonight out of St. Joseph County.
A source tells Newscenter 16, embattled St. Joseph County Councilman Heath Weaver has resigned from his full time job as a Marian High School Teacher.
Weaver was arrested last weekend for resisting law enforcement and public intoxication.
He is accused of telling police they were making a mistake by arresting him and that they would lose their jobs as a result.
Our source says Weaver resigned his teaching job before the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese or Marian High School took any action against him.
Weaver's teaching resignation comes on the heels of groups calling for him to resign his council seat.
Wednesday county Republicans and the South Bend, St. Joseph County and Mishawaka fraternal orders of police called on Weaver to step down.
