Local Republicans are calling for the resignation of St. Joseph County Councilman Heath Weaver.
The request is not based on Weaver's weekend arrest for resisting law enforcement and public intoxication, but rather for his "repeated use of threats" to officers.
Weaver allegedly told police they were making a mistake by arresting him and that they would lose their jobs as a result.
St. Joe County’s Republican Party says Weaver's alleged behavior is a "disgusting display of arrogance."
While Weaver is a Democrat, the Republicans say they have nothing personally to gain.
If he steps down, weaver would be replaced by the Democratic Party.
Meantime, Weaver has issued a written public apology.
