Much of downtown South Bend was in the dark Thursday afternoon after a fire in an electrical vault.
AEP tells us it started near the AT&T building on Scott St.
AEP says it turned off power to the rest of the downtown area as a safety precaution. The power came back on about 5:30 Thursday evening.
The affected area was between Bartlett St. on the north down to South St. on the south and from the St. Joseph River on the east to William St. on the west.
Many of the office buildings, including the county and federal courthouses, the County-City Building, and TCU were closed for the day.
