A private helicopter crashed into Bass Lake near Knox at about 9pm Central Time Sunday night.

At the time, it was too dark to locate the chopper, but crews were able to find it early Monday morning. It was an all day effort to carry it ashore. Crews used floatation devices to bring it off the lake's bottom, and then boats pulled it in. However, because of the uneven floor bottom, the chopper kept getting stuck.

Officials say the pilot was not inside the helicopter. His body has not yet been located. Crews searched for several more hours Tuesday, but found noone.

The passenger in the helicopter was Stephanie Nottke, 41 years old, from Frankfort, Illinois. Officials say Nottke was the pilot's secretary.

Eyewitnesses heard Nottke screaming from the water Sunday night. Two men jumped into a boat, found her, and brought her to shore. But Nottke was pronounced dead at the hospital.
