Some Michigan City students received a special ride Friday in the name of reading.
Springfield Elementary students rode the South Shore from Michigan City to the South Bend Regional Airport.
The train ride was a reward for their reading.
The students had to encircle the school with small box cars.
One car would up on the wall for every book the kids, their parents, or their teachers read.
The students accomplished that goal and then some. “Our primary purpose is to build the desire in the kids to read. And the second is to have the parents work with them and to read with them because the reality is if the kid sees the parent read, it's our belief that the student will read as well,” says Mario Rosa
Michigan City area schools.
Friday, the students read on the train.
When they got to South Bend Newscenter 16’s Cindi Clawson read to the students.
