Human rights took center stage in South Bend Tuesday.
Apartment owners, complex managers and renters all took part in a Human Rights workshop.
The workshop is a way to make sure the community is aware of their housing rights.
Community members were also recognized for doing their part for equal rights. Human Rights Awareness Representative, Lonnie L. Douglas explains, “People doing the right thing are people who rent to those with disabilities, particularly those with visible disabilities. There seems to be a large number of housing units available in south bend and a number of those don't seem to be available to those who have a disability.”
Maura Weis was recognized for her work in establishing Hannah and Friends.
Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weis was the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
