Student Artwork Takes a Front Seat in Elkhart

Sit down, relax and take in the beautiful art work of nine new park benches that were unveiled this afternoon in downtown Elkhart.

What is unique about them they were painted by 53-students from Elkhart community schools?

The theme of the benches is music and to create them, students let their imaginations run wild.

"I'm very proud of what they accomplished. I didn't for a second think that we couldn't do it until we actually broke out the paint and had 16 different colors of paint and all the students in one classroom at the same time, which is kind of chaotic but they did a fantastic job," says Art teacher, Ann Marie Effinger.

Members of the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy came up with project as a way to beautify downtown.

The murals represent Elkhart’s best attributes and are on display at Elkhart City Plaza.
