We all know gas prices can skyrocket anytime so imagine getting a chance to fill up before they do!
Meijer in South Bend has started a new text messaging program.
It lets people know if the price of gas is about to go up.
Meijer officials say people have 3 or 4 hours to get to the gas station to buy gasoline at a cheaper price.
Sometimes customers can save a few cents a gallon, or twenty cents a gallon depending on how much of an increase it is.
"We have a lot of loyal customers not only in our station, but in our store so any advantage we can give them to save money we want to take care of that so that's our goal" says Al McClanahan, Meijer’s Gas Station Coordinator.
The program was first tested in Indianapolis and was very popular.
Soon, it'll be in all of Meijer's five states by next month.
Customers can register their cell phone number by calling 1-800-313-2912.
Customers can text to 634537 (Meijer) with the word GAS plus their 5 digit zipcode.
Customers can also go to Meijer.com/text.
There will be a confirmation and welcome text message sent to the person once they’ve signed up.
