Thursday’s shooting rampage in Fort Hood, Texas that killed 13 and injured 30 has ripple effects in Michiana.
A Plymouth mother and father are mourning the loss of their son, killed in the shootings.
Thirty-two year-old Sergeant Justin DeCrow's dream was to be in the military.
The Plymouth High School graduate married his high school sweetheart and they have a 13 year-old daughter. The couple was living in Georgia.
His family says being on the Plymouth High School football team and wrestling team kept him busy as a teenager.
Right out of high school, DeCrow joined the Army. He was a heavy wheel mechanic and most recently, a satellite communications instructor.
They said he was simply a wonderful brother, son, and father.
Another Michiana military mom, Deb Meyer says he heart goes out to DeCrow's family.
She was panicked all day Thursday that her son, Jonathon Meyer, was one of the 13 killed in Fort Hood.
Meyer knows about the pain. Six years ago, her son Jason was killed by friendly fire in Iraq.
Meyer says, “I just kept thinking as far as yesterday, please God not again and then when I heard from Jonathon, I immediately went into the, “Oh my God.” What are these parents, these families, I know that by last night they would have been notified. Not just the ones killed, the ones wounded. it's a very tragic situation nobody understands unless you've been through it.”
Meyer says when DeCrow's family is ready to talk she's there for them. She was also worried about the soldier from Lafayette, who's one of the 30 wounded in Fort Hood.
The soldier's name is Nathan Hewitt. Family members say the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Funeral plans have been set, but have not been made public yet.
Decrow's body remains in Texas, where his wife will be attending Tuesday's ceremonies at Fort Hood. His wife then plans to return to Indiana on Wednesday.
