Grab a napkin because your mouth is about to water. This is Stone's Old Fashioned Donuts on McKinley in Mishawaka, located right across from the Town and Country shopping center. They have chocolate, powdered, and even pink sprinkles. For the lunch crowd, it's all about their soups! Felicia Stone and her husband Chuck are the owners of this homemade bakery that's only 2 weeks old.
Pink and celery green are the two colors that brighten up the place. The decorating was Felicia’s doings; she leaves the baking up to her husband.
23:48 he comes in early every night between 8 and 9 at night and works feverishly all night rolling out dough 23:53
It's a family affair here at Stones. Felicia says, “My mom and dad volunteer for free my daughter and her friends work from St. Anthony they're part of my donut girls staff.”
There is the doughnut auditor, the concierge, and the coveted job of taste tester...a job I just had to try. Today we're making cherry and apple turnovers. First we roll out the handmade dough, cut the squares then squeeze in the fruit filling. Chuck is a pro. I wouldn't call my attempt a mistake but rather "couture."
Into the oven it goes. Felicia says the number one selling donut is the chocolate frosting. However, the look and eagerness in kid’s eyes proves just about any donut will do.
“We want them to come back for more than just doughnuts. We want it to be a great experience!”
