The members of Albright United Methodist Church in Mishawaka had a lot to celebrate this Easter Sunday.
It has been six months since lightning struck and started a fire that destroyed the sanctuary.
Sunday, they celebrated Easter Sunday in their gym.
That is where they have worshiped since soon after the fire.
The spirits were high Sunday as members look to rebuild after that shocking October evening.
“It was such a traumatic experiences for everyone, I’m not quite sure how to put it in words,” said Albright member, Merlin Waidner. "
Its nice to see the church have a full crowd for Easter Sunday being that we had the fire like we did, its almost like the church is resurrected like Jesus was.”
Sunday members got a special treat.
An old painting that hung in the sanctuary was blackened and burned in the fire.
It was restored and revealed at services Sunday.
And this spring the rebuilding will begin.
Insurance will cover most of the $3 million cost but they are still trying to raise more money.
The church is holding a chili supper on April 30th.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
