Marriage Ammendment Fails to Pass an Indiana House Commitee

A proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Indiana is likely dead for this year.

It failed to clear a key house committee Tuesday.

The proposed amendment contained two parts.

The first states that marriage in Indiana is the union of one man and one woman.

The second provision says the state cannot provide the benefits of marriage to unmarried couples.

The issue could come up again next year.
