Basketball was definitely on the minds of some local celebrities Friday.

WNDU’s Tricia Sloma joined area leaders in a free throw challenge at the YMCA in South Bend.

Hoopin' Heroes is part of the organizations 125th anniversary celebration.

The money raised during Friday's event will be used to help families enjoy what the YMCA has to offer.

“Specifically for scholarships. We have a number of families who can't afford the cost of membership so what we've done is create a reduced rate for those families so that they are capable of utilizing the YMCA just like a traditional family would,” said Milt Lee of YMCA.

Area sponsors paid $5 for every shot made.

Our Tricia Sloma made 47 free throws out of 125, making $235 for the YMCA, thanks to her sponsor, Valentino's Scott Leonard Photography.

The hot shot of the day was Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rea who dropped in 89 free throws.

South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke hit 39.
