Japanese researchers followed more than 18,000 patients with high blood pressure for four and a half years.
All were on statin drugs to help lower cholesterol.
They found those who supplemented the medication with fish oil had a 19% reduction in major coronary problems.
It is important to note that the patients in this study were all Japanese who generally eat much more fish than westerners.
