Murder charges were filed today in the 2005 disappearance and death of an elderly Sturgis woman.
79-year-old Rosemary Reinel was reported missing in September 2005.
She was supposed to go to Florida, but never arrived. Her body was later found in a Lagrange County, Indiana field, not far from the state line.
Reinel's car was found in Sarasota, Florida. After that discovery, police arrested 53-year old Dannie Gayheart, the man who was supposed to take Reinel to Florida.
Today, Gayheart was charged with two counts of felony murder. The Prosecutor's Office says Gayheart killed Reinel by hitting her over the head several times with a pair of pliers.
The Prosecutor's Office says there's also a chance federal authorities may take the case over, and it could become a death penalty case.
