Bike Safety Hits Mishawaka

Dust off your helmets and hit the pavement, bike season is once again upon us.

Tuesday, some area kids were given a lesson in bike and helmet safety.

The program is sponsored by Dare and St. Joseph Community Pediatrics.

Over the next few weeks, officers will visit every elementary school in Mishawaka.

Jo Iden of the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center said, “Obviously safety is important. We pick this time of year because it is obviously getting nice, the kids are getting their bikes out, they are starting to ride.”

He continued with, “We target third graders because this is when they start to move away from mom and dad, so if we can catch them and teach them safety right now, they are a lot better off.”

The safety program also includes a t-shirt design contest.

The grand prize winner will get a new Dare bike and helmet.
